Crosby gets his sea legs

Just chillin'
It has been quite some time since I have updated the blog but as they say, time flies when you're having fun! Crosby is now 5 months old and continues to impress us everyday. He has mastered the art of "steamrolling". He can move all around with ease. He is sitting up a lot better lately, still needing assistance but he can hold his own for a good bit. He is still sleeping through the night like a champ and goes down for his naps with little to no problem. Lately I'll go in his room to get him in the morning or from a nap and he's in there "talking" to his mobile or playing with his pacifier. He is learning to entertain himself and it is so fun to sit back and watch. It's pretty funny when he realizes he's being watched and gives you this, "how long have you been standing there" look. He's such a doll!

We're still breastfeeding and doing great. Crosby is well over 16 pounds now. Now that he is moving more we don't expect him to pack on the pounds has quickly as he did in his earlier days. His next visit to the doctor is in July for his 6 month check and shots. At that point we'll start introducing solids. We plan on making our own baby food and we're really excited about that! We have started baby proofing the house to get ready for the Crosby the Mobile Kid days. Here are a few websites that we have found to be great for those interested in safety, glass bottles, etc:

Happy Mother's Day to me!
For Mother's Day we headed to Seaside. It's where Erik and I got engaged and we thought that a retreat there would be a flash back in time. Crosby touched sand for the first time where Erik popped the question and it was a nice "full circle" moment. Crosby loved the sand, was fairly impressed with the ocean and LOVED the pool. We were so amazed at his expressions and now with him being older you can really see him process things. You can almost see the gears turnin'. That weekend Crosby really discovered his toes, well how to suck on them. Every time he caught a glimpse of his feet he was frantic to get those suckers in his mouth. (Yes, they were clean!) Everything goes in his mouth, I mean EVERYTHING. It is his way of discovering things and also a way to attempt at relieving some discomfort from teething.

Ooh, yummy toes!

Crosby first dip in the pool

On the 3rd we celebrated Erik's 31st birthday. We wanted so badly to take Crosby on the boat so we loaded up the truck, Mako in tow of course, and headed down to the boat. With a ridiculous life jacket on, Crosby experienced his first boat trip. It was blazing hot so we were only out for and hour or so but it was a pretty eventful morning. Crosby took in his surroundings and once again studied everything. It was great to see Erik with Crosby, this is all Erik would talk about...taking Crosby on the boat and teaching him everything there was to learn. Erik is truly in his element when he's on the water and to see him share so much of himself with Crosby at that point was great! They were both so vulnerable in their own way, Crosby so young with so much to experience and Erik, now a dad, with years of energy and knowledge to release. I was lucky enough to be their "fly on the wall" at that moment!

Daddy's first mate

Erik spotted a manatee, cut off the motor and next thing we knew there were 6 of them at the boat. It's mating season until October so we were there to watch the men "court" their desired gal. She was more interested in the boat and Mako. It is amazing to see how big and gently they really are. She rested her nose on the swim platform, tried to touch Mako's nose and rubbed up against the boat. A few of them flipped on there backs to rub their bellies on the boat. Being that close to them we were able to see the damage done from other boats. There were propeller scars all over their backs. It's really sad.

Mako and his manatee

They thrashed around and played a little bit, the males still trying to court their gal. After Mako conquered his fear he was very curious. In a split second he was off the back of the boat and in the middle of these 1 ton mammals. Um, I freaked! Erik called Mako backed to the boat and all was well. After our giant friends scooted far enough away from the boat we started up the engine and toured some more of the river. We really look forward to future family time on the boat!
